Drew’s Research Program

  • Intervention and Prevention Science

My overarching goal is to identify and implement effective strategies that enhance socioemotional outcomes of children and parents. I am particularly interested in exploring promotive and protective factors that operate across various systems levels, in order to develop innovative approaches that improve their overall well-being and foster their resilience. My ultimate goal is to create a positive and supportive environment for families where they can thrive and reach their full potential.

  • Policy and Consultation Work

Effective policy plays a critical role in shaping the future of our youngest generation, and scientific research emphasizes the pivotal role of early experiences in a child's life. Informed policy decisions become even more important as a result. However, there is a significant time lag between research findings and policy changes, with an average of 17 years to translate research into action. By bridging the gap between academia and real-world impact, policies and applied research can support the well-being and potential of our children, laying the foundation for a brighter and more equitable future for everyone.

  • Preschool and ECE Settings

Research in Pre-K and ECE settings is crucial in shaping effective policies and practices for quality early education. Findings inform decisions that impact children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. From teaching methodologies to curriculum choices, this research guides us toward the best strategies to nurture young minds, empowering educators, policymakers, and parents alike.

  • Parenting and Physiology

Research on parenting and interventions can help create nurturing environments for children, exploring parent-child dynamics and ways to enhance sensitivity, discipline, and emotional support. This research equips parents with knowledge and tools to provide a secure, stimulating upbringing. Findings can bridge theory and application, empowering families to create an environment where children can thrive.
